Scorekeepers needed!
SCLL is hoping to recruit some more people to help out with scorekeeping for the upcoming season for the AA, AAA, Majors, and Intermediate division. We need at least one scorekeeping volunteer per team, and hopefully two or more to help spread the work around! (Tee Ball, Farm and A don't do scorekeeping.)
The scorekeeper is the official recorder who accounts for everything that happens during a baseball game (pitches, hits, errors, stolen bases, runs, etc.). While that may sound a bit overwhelming for those who are new to it, once you've learned the basics most people find it both interesting and enjoyable.
For anyone who's interested, here are a few ways you can get involved:
1. Fill out this
very brief survey
to join the list of scorekeeping volunteers and tell us about your experience level and training/mentoring needs.
2.
Attend the in-person scorekeeper training session, Saturday, 2/24, 12-1 p.m. at Harvey West (after the Field Work Day)
: This will be an informal session that will be most useful to people who are brand-new to GameChanger (the app we using for scoring) or who would like a little refresher before the season.
3. Check out the scorekeeping resources on the SCLL website: The SCLL website has an awesome collection of scorekeeping resources. These are great for anyone who likes to learn at their own pace or wants to practice at home. If you're only going to look at one thing from the list, we would recommend the official GameChanger training, which takes about 45-60 minutes.
4. Learn from an experienced scorekeeper during the beginning of the season (or mentor a new scorekeeper if you are more experienced!): Scorekeeping is definitely something that is best learned by doing. For those new scorekeepers who tell us they're interested on the survey, we'll do our best to match you up with a more experienced scorekeeper who can help mentor you through those first couple of games.
