2023 umpire clinics

Here are details about umpire clinics for the 2023 season.

1.) The first clinic will be held on Saturday, January 28th, from 9am to 4pm, at Franich Park. Lunch will be provided. This clinic will be primarily designed for youth umpires, but adults are welcome. No registration is required, but please let the SCLL Umpire in Chiefs (Jason Cirillo or Mimi D'Iorio) know if you will be attending.

MAKEUP CLINIC: The make-up clinic for those who missed the Jan 28th clinic will be held on Saturday, Feb 25 from 1-4pm on Field 5. In addition, there will be a special Plate Umpire Training session happening simultaneously for those who have umpiring experience or who have completed basic clinics. Please let UIC Jason Cirillo know if you will be attending.

2.) The second clinic will be the annual Section 5 clinic up in Los Gatos. This clinic will be held on Saturday, February 18th from 8am to 5:30pm and Sunday, February 19th from 8:30am to 3pm, and is for students 16 and older, unless accompanied by an adult also participating in the clinic. This is a more in depth clinic and runs all day Saturday and all day Sunday, so is usually a bit much for younger students. Registration is required for this clinic and can be found here:

3.) The third clinic will cover differences between umpiring on a 60 foot base field and a 70 foot base field (50/70 versus majors). This clinic will be held on Sunday, February 26th, from 1 to 3pm on Field 2 at Harvey West Park. This clinic will be fairly short as most of the mechanics will have been covered in the other two clinics.

4.) The fourth clinic will cover rules and will be held over zoom and broken into two nights. Wednesday, March 1st, from 6 to 8pm and Thursday, March 2nd, from 6 to 8pm.
