Important Changes for 2012 Season to the AA and AAA Divisions

Starting in 2012, the AA and AAA Divisions will be restructured. Many 9-year-olds will now be playing in the AAA Division. The AAA teams will be formed following evaluations and a draft.

Note that all references to the age of a child are to “league age” – the child’s age on April 30, 2012.

AA Division

The AA division is an instructional league designed to introduce players to live pitching and “real” baseball.  All-around skills development will be emphasized. Teams will be made based on schools and friend requests.

The AA division is primarily for 8 year-olds and 9 year-olds who have not previously played in the AA division.

A 7 year-old may “play up” to AA after a safety evaluation, and a 9 year-old who has already played one year of AA may request to stay in AA a second year but must pass a safety evaluation.

AAA Division

The AAA division is a more competitive league designed to continue player development while preparing players for the Majors division. All AAA players will attend the evaluations. Following the evaluations, there will be a draft to spread talent evenly among the teams.

The AAA division is primarily for 10 and 11 year-olds who are not drafted to a Majors team and for 9 year-olds who have previously played one year of AA.

A 9 year-old who has previously played one year of AA may request to stay in AA but must attend a safety evaluation. A 9 year-old who has not previously played in AA may still participate in the AAA evaluations. 8 year-olds may “play up” to AAA by participating in evaluations and being selected in the AAA draft if there are spots available.

Majors Division

The majors division is the most competitive league. Teams will be formed based on tryouts and a draft.

All 12 year-olds must be drafted to a Majors team. All 10 and 11 year-olds are eligible for the Majors draft and must attend the tryouts/evaluations. Players in the Majors division last year do not need to attend tryouts.

Tryouts and Safety Evaluations

Tryouts for Majors and evaluations for AAA will be held at Mission Hill Middle School on Saturday, January 14, 2012 and Saturday, January 21, 2012. Safety evaluations for all divisions will also take place on those dates. Saturday, January 28, 2012 will be a make-up/rain date, if necessary. The specific times for each age group’s tryouts/evaluations will be announced soon.
