Challenger Division Baseball

Hosted By Santa Cruz Little League

The Challenger Division of Little League is a program for developmentally and physically challenged youth, helping them to enjoy the full benefits of Little League participation in an athletic environment structured to their abilities. More than the skills of baseball learned through the experience, the value of the Little League Challenger Division is found in the proven therapeutic and socialization benefits of participating in sports: the strengthening of participant’s self-esteem. Challenger Division players have the opportunity to experience the joys of pulling together as a team with their Major League “Buddies”, being cheered and earning awards for their achievements.

Hello SCLL Families

It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of one of our Santa Cruz Little League community.  Shane Loftis passed away last week from natural causes while vacationing with his family and friends.  He touched the lives of many of our athletes over his 10 years of coaching (2006 – 2016) and is best known for his kind sense of humor, focus on sportsmanship and passion for helping all the kids on his team be the best they could be.  Shane truly embodied the spirit of Little League and received the Positive Coaching Award four times.

He is survived by his wife, Gina Loftis, past president of SCLL and their sons, Jacob, 18 and Tyler, 16…both SCLL players.

A Celebration of Life Service will take place this Saturday, July 27th at 1 pm at Santa Cruz Bible Church.

For more information, please go to https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/shaneloftis

To honor Shane’s love of coaching, donations may be made directly to Santa Cruz Little League by following this link https://leagueathletics.com/UserForm.asp?RegID=123525&org=SANTACRUZLITTLELEAGUE.ORG

The family has also set up the Shane Loftis Memorial Athletic Fund to honor his legacy.  Donations will support the three organizations where Shane coached:  Santa Cruz Little League, Santa Cruz Pop Warner and Santa Cruz High School JV Football (New Weight Room Fund).  You may also specify where you would like your donation to go. https://www.gofundme.com/f/shane-loftis-memorial-fund&rcid=r01-156389861755-896758a44f0144fb&pc=ot_co_campmgmt_w

Two great games were played tonight at Harvey West deciding the Majors American and National League championship teams.

First up was the visiting Athletics versus the Angels, who remained tied at 3 runs a piece deep into extra innings. The A's squeaked out a run in the top of 9th inning and held on for the victory sending them to TOCs with a 4 to 3 win.

Next came the visiting Giants versus the Diamondbacks. Another hard fought pitching duel, both teams were tied after 6 innings with 2 runs. The Diamondbacks walked it off in the bottom of the 6th inning sending them on to the TOCs with the Athletics.

Congratulations to all the teams involved, and thank you Santa Cruz Little League for another exciting end to our local playoffs!

Thank You for your Contributions!

Thank You Santa Cruz Little League Families!

We would like to send a sincere Thank You to all those who gave on #GivingTuesday! Your donation will help improve the Little League experience for our children and future children through improved facilities, equipment and coach training. Your donation has a lasting impact on the future of our organization.

Whether it was to Santa Cruz Little League or a different organization of your choice, we appreciate your willingness to help better our world and our community.

It is never too late to give. Everyone has something to offer. You can give time or expertise, monetary donations large or small, and simple acts of kindness. An offer to help a coach carry their equipment to and from their car or a simple thank you for your time, a "great job out there" even after a tough loss means so much to our players and coaches!

We wish you all a wonderful holiday season and look forward to seeing you in Spring!

Character. Courage. Loyalty.

Through effective leadership, enthusiasm, and commitment, together with training extensions and adherence to rule and policy at the District and local league levels, Little League provides inclusive, enjoyable opportunities for any child and volunteer to participate in a community-based program that is distinctive, unique, and promotes life lessons beyond the field of play.
